Finished!

Here's my final posters and model that I presented...

My Design

Here is a sketch up model of my final design, I focused on using plywood timber pieces and opaque thick plastic bolted to form my space. I think the incorportation of the two works well, and using the plastic lets enough light in the space, aswell as keeping the privacy I would expect somewhere im living :)

The roof is almost like a convertible car rooftop, canvas can be pulled out for shelter when it's raining or cold, or kept open for fresh air in the nice weather.

Hope you guys like it...any changes?

This is how I dismount my model

site pic

here is a random pic of our site that i drew up and like

development

Here is my development up to where i am at the moment, gone from a pretty random arrangement of different sorts of pods to a interlocking design that incorporates a roof setup.

Nice work Nic, Sarah and Nat! looks like your stuff is coming on nicely

Anyone worked out a good way for getting stuff up to the ledge and then a way for us to get up and down ourselves. At the moment i've got a pulley to hoist the pods up and a rope ladder for myself

work work work!!

Hey guys/girls, this is my begining to The my Minimal Project, these are my first sketch's...Week 2- I played with the form and variation in shapes in a 3d aspect this week, trying to explore what we can and cannot do with the human form. What to all you guys think?
Last but not least week 3 brought about a exploration in materials but basically the same form. Please give me so tips of what u like and dont like.. Catch
So here is my minima.

The circle at the front holds my sleeping quarters, at the bottom, like a hommock, and the top half holds my desk, which is a plank of wood sitting in a sort of sling which is sewn into the canvas-y walls. The bench is done in the same manner and is in the main rectangle area, along with a closed off area for toilet/shower.

I thought using light coloured materials would create an illusion of space, and i used circles on the material surface, which would just be a pattern on the canvas, to tie in the structural circle at the front. The main priority was keeping space down, so i tried to use all my spaces in multiple ways, like the sleeping/working area at the front.

See you all on friday! Good luck

Minima

Here are the beginnings of the minima project. I started with sketches of the exploration of space and minimal living.
The main focus of my design will be designing a demountable 'hut' that is not only a place of minimal living, but comfort too, as personally I couldn't live in a tiny room and I need space to be comfortable.

I also think I will be keeping my hut in a square shape, I call it 'boxed living'. I still need to experiment with this idea.

Sarah poster photos of the site so I haven't felt the need to:)

better post my stuff too then, have to get it scanned up first

Minima

Hi again.

So for minima we have the ledge at the front of the atrium for our site, which i still have no idea how to get to.

Here are some photos i took; one from out the front looking upwards, and the other from inside on the same level.

This is the start of my design development, i was trying to play around with all the different ways in which i could use the ledge, mostly by hanging from it or sitting upon it.

Since our discussion last week i have gone into the ideas further, at the moment i am trying to work out a way to construct my minima like a tent, except not resemble or be as light as a typical tent. I have some ideas incorporating timber panels and canvas material for the walls, attached to poles, like that of tents, which can be pieced together.
So to end it here, does anyone know how to make a tent not look like a tent?

Hey good idea Sarah i'll join you...
Here are my posters from the first project this year.

The main issue in the project would deffinately have to be the privacy factor, so I decided to use all the blocks for higher walls, also placing them in corners and away from the main hall.
Hope it worked out fine:)

Minimal

Hi people!
i'll just get us started, this is my work from project 1, minimal.

130 blocks, and a plank of wood.
i struggled to generate some privacy with so little, but i think i managed okay.
